Training for teaching assistants

The Let’s Talk training courses are for educational support staff (e.g. teaching assistants and 1:1’s). They provide key skills and knowledge on how to develop children’s language and communication within the classroom. The courses explore why some children find it difficult to talk or to understand what is being said to them, and offer practical ideas to help children learn to listen, understand and speak. All learners attending the course will receive a Level 1 qualification certificate that is accredited by an externally quality assured and OfQual regulated national Awarding Organisation.

We are currently accepting expressions of interest for the Let’s Talk 5 to 11 year olds course. Please email us if you are interested in reserving a place for this course.

Key Word signing workshops

Key Word Sign (KWS – also known as Makaton) is a unique way of using signs to help people communicate. It is designed to support spoken language and the signs are used with speech, in spoken word order. Using KWS provides extra clues about what someone is saying and can help people who have no speech or whose speech is unclear. KWS can ease frustration for those who have difficulty with verbal communication, enabling individuals to connect with other people and the world around them. It can also benefit reluctant talkers, those who are learning English as a second language, and promotes communication in a fun and active way. Steps Therapy Centre offers the following workshops to teachers in Bangkok:
  • Introduction to Key Word Signing
  • Beginners Workshop
  • Advanced Workshop
  • Storytelling Workshop
  • Singing with Signs workshop
