Education is central to wellbeing – that’s why at Steps, we focus our efforts on building inclusivity in classrooms beyond our own training centres. We offer speech and language support to teaching staff across Bangkok, using Elklan’s UK-accredited courses.
We are happy to report that the Elklan courses have been launched as e-learning packages, which means we’ve been able to train 22 new teaching staff to develop their teaching practice and make their classrooms more inclusive.
Teachers and learning support staff from Brighton College, St Andrews 71, St Andrews Dusit, Sathorn and Green Valley, Shrewsbury Riverside and Regent’s, joined us for 10 weeks. One group completed Speech and Language Support for 3-5s and the other worked on Speech and Language Support for 5-11s.
The weekly eLearning sessions focussed on specific areas of speech, language and communication. Ultimately, the aim is to deepen understanding of speech and language needs in the classroom. Learners also attended a weekly live webinar with our experienced Elklan tutor to discuss, share and extend their learning with other learners and gain practical knowledge and tools to support students with speech, language and communication needs.
Attendees found the course informative, with one saying: “So interesting, it has hugely helped me to have a more secure understanding and support the children more effectively. The course is very well detailed and I have gained a great deal of confidence and knowledge from it.”
Further opportunities to attend an Elklan UK accredited course will be available in the next academic year and you can find out more about the course and how to sign up here.
