Congratulations to the British International School, Phuket (BISP) for becoming the first school in Thailand to be awarded UK-accredited Elklan Communication Friendly status!
Over the last two years, staff at BISP have worked incredibly hard to provide the best learning environment for their students. Key members of staff completed the UK-accredited Elklan Speech and Language Support for 5-11 year olds with Steps. Following this, they trained as Lead Communication Practitioners, meaning they could deliver ‘Communication Counts’ training to all their colleagues.
Topics covered in the Communication Counts training sessions include:
- What is communication? Developing interaction
- Asking effective questions
- Extending vocabulary
- Developing understanding and Speak Out!
- Encouraging expressive language and narrative development
Elklan Communication Friendly Setting (CFSe) accreditation is awarded to settings which have trained and supported all their staff in communication and language development. They will also have shown evidence of embedding this knowledge in targeted interventions and through the implementation of a Communication Policy.
Lead Communication Practitioners said:
“Delivering this training has given me newfound confidence when it comes to supporting staff and sharing ideas.”
“The staff were so keen to take on ideas, support each other and get creative with it and had such a positive attitude to the training.”
Further opportunities to attend an Elklan UK accredited course are available with Steps this academic year. Find out more about the courses and how to sign up here (PDF, opens in new tab).
