Every young person is unique. So is the way they learn.

Our vocational training centres in Bangkok and Phuket are open to learners aged 11 and up who would benefit from an alternative to mainstream education. We’ll let your family member lead us to the way they learn best so they have the greatest chance of achieving their potential.

“Academic scenery just did not work for Finn. But since joining Steps he’s confident and enjoys socializing which he never did before. He travels to work on his own now, he’s very independent. The difference is immense.”

– Parent of Finn, who graduated from Steps in 2020 and is now in long term employment.

We listen. We adapt. We build trust.

Welcome to Steps . We run UK-accredited vocational training centres in central Bangkok and Phuket for young adults aged 11 and up. Many of our trainees have learning differences, for example autism, but we welcome anyone who fits our admission criteria.

Every young person has their own needs and way of learning. So when your family member enrols with us we will tailor our programmes and the way we teach to suit them. The one thing all our courses do have in common is an emphasis on social skills and employability, because it’s our mission to help your family member access a supportive community and a fulfilling career.

Our programmes

We have three main programmes. Through assessment and discussion with you and your family member, we will see which is the best starting point for them when they join us, and monitor their progress carefully as they work through each programme. The programmes are outlined below:

1.

Life Skills Programme

(First Step)

This programme is about preparing your family member socially and emotionally for the working environment. We’ll look at functional numeracy and literacy skills, social and emotional wellbeing, communication skills and access to UK ASDAN qualifications.

2.

Preparation for the Future Programme (Next Steps)

On this programme we’ll start introducing your child to practical working environments. They may prepare food in our coffee shops, work in our business services centre, or do work experience with a Steps business partner. They can complete ASDAN qualifications or start a BTEC.

3.

Transition to Employment

(Future Steps)

Our transition programme will focus on employability. Your child may attend mock interviews and make their CV. They may start an internship with a Steps business partner. They will complete any ASDAN or BTEC qualifications they’re working on.

Three things you should know about us…

We’re a social enterprise

We have a unique model: we run coffee shops and zero waste shops alongside our training centre. These act as spaces for our trainees to get hands on work, increase their confidence and gain social skills. Any profit made goes back into the development and growth of Steps, for the benefit of our trainees.

We value social skills as highly as academic achievement

We run a life skills programme dedicated to building confidence, social skills and wellbeing. Our training centres are safe, community spaces where our trainees can nurture friendships, serve customers who understand their limitations, and feel part of something bigger. When we transition trainees into work, we support their employer to deal with the social challenges they might face.

Our team is highly qualified and experienced

Everyone, from our vocational trainers to our team of therapists, is qualified to the highest standard, and training programmes are UK-accredited. Our therapists work functionally within training sessions to lend additional support. We are all Elkan trained and we’ve achieved a certification as a communication friendly environment. Many of us have friends or family members with autism so we truly understand the challenges this brings.
